Do I need to own a machine? You don’t have to own one. I have a limited # of machines to use, on a first come first served basis. I do however encourage you to borrow one if you can.
Should I bring my machine each week? Yes. If you have one.
What level of experience are these classes for? Session 1, “Foundations” is for beginners. Session 2, “Understanding Patterns” is a progression from beginner level and is suitable for those with minimal sewing experience.
What preparation is needed before classes? Basic familiarity with your machine, including threading and bobbin winding is highly recommended. A few minutes prior to the first class, I’d be happy to help with threading and bobbin winding. This must be arranged in advance.
Can I stay during my child’s class? You’re very welcome to stay. However, if you have small children, they need to be very carefully watched and contained in our living room as there will be hot irons and scissors around. Please bring quiet toys or activities to keep them busy. If this is not possible, be considerate of the other students and plan to drop off and pick up your student before and after classes.
Are these classes designed for children only? No. I teach adults as well. Please note that my youngest students would benefit best from having at least a 2nd grade reading level.
Do you offer student discounts? Yes. If more than 2 students in the same family sign up, I give a 10% discount for all. I’m also not opposed to old fashioned “bartering” for lessons and currently need someone to paint my kitchen (won’t be an easy job…lot’s of priming and cutting in).
Allergy alert: We have a very lovable Black Lab mix dog at home. Friends with dog allergies have rarely been bothered while visiting.
